I have been working on a few crochet patterns and had some leftover yarn I wanted to use up. I also wanted a new pillow for the living room so naturally I crocheted a new pillow cover. I used a bubble and stripe pattern that I think turned out quite nice.
I made buttonholes in my last two border rows so that I could add a button closure.
The back of the pillow cover is made up of some scrap upholstery material I had in my scrap stash.
I have added the pattern I used below: Feel free to use as you like.
Bubbles and Stripes Pattern
Bubble: Yo, pick up a loop in the next stitch, yo and through 2 loops, (yo, pick up a loop in the same stitch, yo and through 2 loops) 2 times, yo, draw through all 4 loops on the hook.
Chain: Measure pillow and chain yarn to desired length.
Foundation Row (WS): sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each ch across row, turn.
Row 1: With 1st yarn color, ch 1 (counts as first sc now and throughout), skip first st, sc in each sc across row, turn.
Row 2: With yarn color 1, ch 1, skip first st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, *bobble in next st, sc in each of next 3 sc, rep from * across, ending with last sc in top of the turning ch, turn. Drop yarn color 1 and draw yarn color 2 through last loop.
Rows 3-4: With yarn color 2, ch 1, skip first st, 1 sc in each st across row, 1 sc top of turning ch, turn. At end of last row, drop this color and draw yarn color 3 through last loop.
Row 5: With yarn color 3, ch 1, skip first st, working in back loops only, 1 sc in each st across, 1 sc in top of turning ch, turn.
Row 6: With yarn color 3, ch 1, skip first st, 1 sc in each st across row, turn. Drop yarn color 3, draw yarn color 1 through last loop.
Rep Rows 1-6 for pattern
Button Hole Loops: Measure 4th side of pillow and mark button placement. sc until first button placement is reached- chain desired length to match button width, skip determined amount of stitches and sc in next sc from previous row.
(I used 1 3/8" buttons. I chained 5 and skipped 4 stitches and sc in next sc from previous row).
When desired length and width is achieved, single stitch around pillow once. Turn sc across 3 sides of pillow cover. On 4th side sc around while also making button hole loops in the 4th side.
If you use this pattern, I would enjoy seeing your finished product. Happy Crocheting!
