An Apron is like God's Grace

Today I finished a sewing project that I started 2 years ago.  Sometimes I put a project aside and pick it up later...much later.
I was struck by the thought of how God's grace is like an apron and I wanted to share what God put on my heart as I sewed up a simple apron.

"Live under the fountain of his grace and sin shall not be your master." (Romans 6:14).

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me." 2 Corinthians 12:9

I envision God's grace covering me like an apron covers a cook while they are preparing a meal.  The apron provides protection against grease spatters that can burn us and protects our clothes from stains that can ruin a good outfit.  God's grace offers us protection from the sinful desires that can burn us and stain not only our hearts but our christian reputation.

Life's journey is not always easy and we each have our own path that God has called us to, but if it were not for God's protection and Grace I know I would not have the strength to persevere.

Remember when Abraham offered his wife Sarah to  King Abimelek in Genesis? God had to intervene in order to protect Abraham and Sarah.

“Then God said to him in the dream, ‘Yes, I know you did this with a clear conscience, and so I have kept you from sinning against me. That is why I did not let you touch her. Now return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live.’” Genesis 20:6-7a (NIV)

I imagine Abraham and Sarah's lives would have turned out much different if God had not intervened.  God offered grace over a man's mistake as holy protection from an even greater mess.

How many times have we unknowingly sinned against God and yet, how many times has God intervened and protected us from making a complete mess of our lives?  We will probably never know until we sit down and talk with him in our heavenly home.

Every woman knows that a good apron has pockets. These pockets hold tissues to wipe the tears of little ones eyes (or your own) and mine usually have a few eggs in them from the chicken coop.

I imagine God's apron (grace) also has pockets.  He keeps comfort in a pocket to wipe our tears when we are going through hardships but he also has a pocket full of blessings for those that keep themselves unto him.

"And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:" 2 Corinthians 9:8

God is so merciful! I thank God for all He’s doing in my life—especially the things I am not even aware of.  I am thankful for the Grace and blessings he has given me out of the 'pockets of his apron.'

"I will open rivers of grace, rivers of living water, which Christ spake of the Spirit," John 7:38,39.
